Shilajit FAQ: dose, taste, storage and delivery

Short answers to the questions we’re asked most. If yours isn’t here, get in touch and we’ll help.

What is Hilasti shilajit?

It’s raw shilajit resin, a dark, sticky natural substance collected in the Nepalese Himalayas at around 4,800 m (16,000 ft). It contains fulvic acid and minerals and has been used in Ayurveda for centuries. Our resin has nothing added. You can read more on what shilajit is.

How do I take it?

A suggested serving is about 100 mg, roughly half of the wide end of the spatula that comes with the jar. Dissolve it in a warm drink such as water, tea or milk, up to 2–3 times a day. Don’t dissolve it in tap water; use filtered or bottled water instead. Don’t exceed the suggested serving on the label.

How long does a jar last?

At 100 mg per serving, a 30 g jar holds about 300 servings and a 15 g jar about 150. How long that lasts depends on how often you take it. At one serving a day, a 30 g jar lasts around ten months.

What does it taste like?

Shilajit tastes bitter, smoky and earthy. Most people find it easier to take dissolved in a warm drink.

How should I store it?

Keep the jar in a cool, dry place with the lid closed, away from direct sunlight. Resin is sensitive to temperature. It can turn hard in the cold and soft or runny in the heat. That’s normal and doesn’t mean anything is wrong. If it’s too hard to scoop, warm the jar in your hand for a minute.

Is it lab tested?

Yes. A batch of our resin was tested for lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury by an accredited independent laboratory. All results were within EU limits for food supplements. See the full figures and download the report on our lab results page.

Is it vegan?

Yes. Our shilajit is a natural mineral-rich resin with no animal products and nothing added, so it’s suitable for vegans.

Who shouldn’t take shilajit?

Don’t take shilajit if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and don’t give it to children. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist first if you take any medication or have a health condition, including gout or a condition that affects iron levels, such as haemochromatosis.

Our sister site explains the evidence in more detail:

Shilajit is a food supplement, not a medicine, and shouldn’t replace a varied, balanced diet.

Where do you deliver and how much does it cost?

We ship tracked from Lithuania to EU countries and the UK. Shipping is free on orders over €49. Full details on costs, delivery times and returns are on our shipping and returns page.

Can I return my order?

Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to cancel. For hygiene reasons, we can only take back jars that are still sealed. If something arrives damaged or wrong, contact us within 14 days with photos. See shipping and returns for how it works.

How can I pay?

Checkout is handled securely by Stripe. You can pay by card, digital wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, or Klarna, depending on your country. Prices are in euros. We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added.
